"As a singer, artist and teacher, I’m drawn to the ways that yoga can unblock creative flow, balance emotional output, and create space for deep exploration of one’s truth."

"Lauren approaches teaching with warmth and confidence. Her eagerness to facilitate growth in our collective practice is highlighted by her preparation which is evident in every class. Her asides bring a subtle, profound awareness to space in my body where there’s more room to deepen and release. "

Specializing in collaboration with a deep love for harmonies, Lauren has sung with billie woods, Elucid, Willie Green, the New York Lovebirds, Iam Popula and the In Crowd, Danny Sherrill, PremRock, and countless others.

Growing up, music filled her home. Influenced by everything from Nas to Michael Jackson to classic jazz standards to the Beatles, Lauren often got into trouble for not putting the records back after hours of exploring her family’s collection.

Look forward to her upcoming project, The Homage EP. A collection of some of  her favorite songs reimagined with and produced by Willie Green.

Until then, catch her sanging her Rock and Soul heart out with the New York Lovebirds

Lauren Kelly Benson is a vocalist, teaching artist and yoga teacher.

Founder of Aditi Flow and Creative Wellness, she is committed to bringing meditation and yoga to people from all walks of life.  She began her practice over 10 years ago when she moved to New York and found it complemented her artistic practices. "Finding the light that shines within me" This is how I describe my experience with Lauren as my yoga instructor!  I took her class a few times and my spirit immediately connected to her style and ultimately her way of life.  I also choose Lauren for my one-on-one yoga lesson where she enlightened me to poses that would benefit my body. Walking in her passion and sharing her love of that passion...that says it all!  Thank you!

Why a Teaching Artist?

Having studied at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Hunter College, and countless conservatory programs, Lauren’s passion for singing, theatre and the theatre arts extends back to her childhood. Inspired by how this work has touched her own life, her goal as a teaching artist is to bring out the utmost in creative expression from each child.

Within the construct of our industrial age education systems,  many children are not empowered by their educational communities to be expressive and true to who they are. In response, Lauren’s teachings are based in mindfulness practices, Urban Art Beat’s Critical Revolutionary Hip Hop Pedagogy, Augosto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed, and Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed.

Directly working against the school-to-prison-pipeline, every moment of mindfulness, yoga, and free and welcome self-expression allows each  child to recognize the power and freedom found in their own voice. Through empowering the youth with these tools,  she is doing her part to secure our future.

"Lauren has worked with my students in several capacities ( Theatrical Instructor, Movement Teacher, Acting Coach, Guest Lecturer, Director ) and in each of these lights, she is luminous- so much so that she ignites a spark in each child just by being around her.  It has been a pleasure growing my public school theater department with Ms. Benson as a reoccurring teaching artist and I look forward to her continued success in the NYC area."
